The National Hurricane Center’s 10 p.m. Friday update reported that Tropical Storm Fay is in the Atlantic Ocean, 1,090 miles west-southwest of the Azores. Packing maximum sustained winds of 40 mph, it is tracking west-southwest at 7 mph.

“A gradual turn to the south-southwest is expected to occur, along with an increase in forward speed,” according to meteorologists. They also said “Gradual weakening is forecast during the next 48 hours.”
