Update: Earthquake of 5.3 magnitude recorded close to off the coast of Oregon, OR on Sept. 7

DESCHUTES COUNTY, OR — A 5.3 magnitude quake occurred near off the coast of Oregon on Monday afternoon, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The tremor, which jolted the area at 1:30 a.m. (4:30 p.m. local time), was centered of off the coast of Oregon. It occurred at a depth of 6 miles. Seismologists first reported it as a 4.6 event, but later upgraded it to 5.3.

Past week’s tremor

On Sep. 4, another magnitude 3.7 quake was reported nearby, also close to off the coast of Oregon.
