Update: Earthquake shakes region close to Mid-Atlantic Ridge on July 16 – 5.0 magnitude detected

A 5.0 magnitude quake rattled close to Mid-Atlantic Ridge on Thursday evening, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The tremor hit at 21:53 UTC (20:53 local time), with its epicenter south of Mid-Atlantic Ridge and a depth of 10 km.

Tremors last week

Four tremors of magnitude 2.5 or above were registered in the area last week. The biggest, a 5.3 magnitude quake, hit in the same region prior to this quake.
