5.3 magnitude earthquake hits close to Puerto Madero, Mexico on July 19

TAPACHULA, Chis. — A 5.3 magnitude quake shook close to Puerto Madero on Sunday evening, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The tremor struck at 01:47 UTC (19:47 local time), with its epicenter about 85 km southwest of Puerto Madero and a depth of 10 km.

Tremors past week

44 quakes of magnitude 2.5 or above were recorded in the region last week, three of them larger than magnitude 5.5. The biggest, a 7.3 magnitude earthquake, was registered in the same area on Jul. 17.
