TAPACHULA, Chis. — A 5.0 magnitude quake struck near Puerto Madero on Friday morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

At 15:57 UTC (09:57 local time), a tremor rattled the region at a depth of 35 km, with its epicenter about 98 km southwest of Puerto Madero. Seismologists first reported it as a 5.1 event, but later downgraded it to 5.0.

Four tremors of magnitude 2.5 or above were registered in the area last week. The biggest, a 7.3 magnitude quake, was recorded in the same region prior to this quake.
