MOUNT WADDINGTON, BC — A 5.4 magnitude quake occurred close to Port McNeill on Monday evening, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

A tremor struck the area at 04:41 UTC (19:41 local time). The earthquake’s epicenter was about 231 km west-southwest of Port McNeill and occurred at a depth of 10 km. Seismologists first reported it as a 5.5 event, but later downgraded it to 5.4.
