A 5.2 magnitude quake was reported near Kokopo at midday on Sunday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

It was reported that a tremor hit the region at 01:23 UTC (11:23 local time). The epicenter was situated about 125 km south of Kokopo, at a depth of 27 km. Seismologists first reported it as a 5.1 event, but later upgraded it to 5.2.

Past week’s quake

Over the last week, another earthquake with a magnitude 5.1 was registered in the area. It too was recorded close to Kokopo, six days earlier.
