YELIZOVSKY DISTRICT, Kamchatka Krai — According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a 5.0 magnitude quake occurred close to Vilyuchinsk at midday on Sunday.

A tremor jolted the area at 01:40 UTC (12:40 local time). The earthquake’s epicenter was located about 172 km south-southeast of Vilyuchinsk and occurred at a depth of 29 km. Seismologists first reported it as a 4.9 event, but later upgraded it to 5.0.
