Update: 5.7 magnitude earthquake shakes close to Boca de Yuma, Dominican Republic on Aug. 5

SAN RAFAEL DEL YUMA, La Altagracia Province — A 5.7 magnitude quake was recorded near Boca de Yuma Tuesday morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

At 09:23 UTC (05:23 local time), the region was hit by a tremor. The earthquake jolted at a depth of 195 km, with its epicenter about 35 km east-southeast of Boca de Yuma.

Moderate shaking was observed, and residents in multiple cities — such as San Juan, Guaynabo and Bayamon — reported experiencing the earthquake, according to the USGS DYFI report.
