A 5.0 magnitude quake was detected close to Vilyuchinsk Monday morning, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.
The tremor shook the area at 21:59 UTC (08:59 local time). It occurred at a depth of 10 km with the epicenter situated approximately 187 km south-southeast of Vilyuchinsk.

Tremors last week
In the past week, 14 tremors of magnitude 5.5 or above have been recorded in the area, two of them larger than magnitude 6.1. The strongest, a 6.9 magnitude quake, was registered near Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky five days earlier.
