USHUAIA DEPARTMENT, Tierra del Fuego Province — A 5.6 magnitude quake shook near Ushuaia on Friday evening, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The tremor, which hit the area at 23:10 UTC (19:10 local time), was centered about 290 km south-southeast of Ushuaia. It occurred at a depth of 10 km. Seismologists first reported it as a 5.7 event, but later downgraded it to 5.6.
