Earthquake measuring 5.1 strikes area near Isangel, Vanuatu on Sept. 9

A 5.1 magnitude quake occurred close to Isangel on Wednesday morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The tremor, which hit the region at 17:18 UTC (04:18 local time), was centered about 81 km east-southeast of Isangel. It occurred at a depth of 10 km.

Tremors last week

During the past week, three quakes of magnitude 2.5 or above have been detected in the area. The most significant was a 5.6 magnitude earthquake that shook in the same region on Sep. 6.
