ALEUTIANS WEST CENSUS AREA, AK — A 5.5 magnitude quake struck close to Nikolski on Thursday morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The tremor hit at 8:21 p.m. (9:21 a.m. local time), with its epicenter roughly 62 miles south of Nikolski and a depth of 6 miles. Seismologists first reported it as a 5.2 event, but later upgraded it to 5.5.
