5.0 magnitude earthquake rattles near Shikotan, Russia on Sept. 20

A 5.0 magnitude quake struck near Shikotan on Sunday morning, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The tremor, which shook the area at 23:25 UTC (10:25 local time), was centered about 16 km west-southwest of Shikotan. It occurred at a depth of 65 km.
