Update: July 11 – 2.3 magnitude earthquake recorded close to Parkfield, CA

MONTEREY COUNTY, CA — Friday night, a preliminary 2.3 magnitude quake was reported near Parkfield, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The tremor, which struck the area at 10:05 p.m., was centered approximately 13 miles north-northwest of Parkfield. It occurred at a depth of just 4 miles.

Parkfield region hit by two tremors over the week

Two earthquakes greater than magnitude 2.5 have been registered nearby over the last week. Each was centered in the same area with the more significant—a 3.1 magnitude event—striking one day ago. The second, a 2.9 magnitude tremor, rattled on July 8.
