Update: Earthquake measuring 2.3 shakes area near Parkfield, CA on July 11

MONTEREY COUNTY, CA — A preliminary 2.3 magnitude quake was reported close to Parkfield Friday night, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The tremor struck at 10:05 p.m., with its epicenter situated about 13 miles north-northwest of Parkfield and a depth of just 4 miles.

Parkfield region rattled by two tremors over the week

Two tremors greater than magnitude 2.5 have been recorded in the area over the past week. Each was centered in the same region with the more significant—a 3.1 magnitude event—striking one day ago. The second, a 2.9 magnitude quake, rattled on July 8.
