Update: Earthquake of 5.0 magnitude reported near Dampit, Indonesia on Sept. 11

MALANG REGENCY, East Java — According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a 5.0 magnitude quake shook close to Dampit on Thursday around midday.

A tremor struck the area at 03:14 UTC (11:14 local time). The earthquake’s epicenter was situated about 159 km south of Dampit and occurred at a depth of 35 km. Seismologists first reported it as a 4.9 event, but later upgraded it to 5.0.
