According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a 5.2 magnitude quake occurred close to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky Thursday morning.

At 19:06 UTC (06:06 local time), the region was shaken by a tremor. The earthquake jolted at a depth of 24 km, with its epicenter approximately 156 km east-southeast of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.

Tremors last week

In the past week, the area has experienced nine earthquakes of magnitude 2.5 or greater, three of them larger than magnitude 7. The most significant was a 7.7 magnitude earthquake recorded in the same region five days earlier.
