ISTMINA, Choco — A 5.0 magnitude quake occurred close to Sipí on Wednesday afternoon, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The USGS reported a tremor in the region at 20:12 UTC (15:12 local time). The epicenter was approximately 29 km west-southwest of Sipí, at a depth of 59 km.

Tremors past week

Over the last week, the area has experienced eight tremors of magnitude 2.5 or above. The strongest, a 4.9 magnitude quake, shook the same region on Sep. 14.
