Sunday evening, a 5.0 magnitude quake was recorded near Shikotan, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

It was reported that a tremor jolted the region at 09:40 UTC (19:40 local time). The epicenter was located roughly 38 km east-southeast of Shikotan, at a depth of 41 km.
