Update: 5.1 magnitude earthquake jolts close to Port Blair, India on July 7

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a 5.1 magnitude quake occurred near Port Blair Monday afternoon.

At 10:16 UTC (16:16 local time), the region was hit by a tremor. The earthquake struck at a depth of 10 km, with its epicenter approximately 287 km south-southeast of Port Blair.

Two tremors near Port Blair past week

Last week, there were two earthquakes above magnitude 2.5 centered in the same area. The largest, a 4.7 magnitude earthquake, rattled four days earlier, while the other, measuring 4.6, was registered on July 4.
