Update: Earthquake measuring 5.0 shakes area near South Sandwich Islands region on May 25

A 5.0 magnitude quake struck close to South Sandwich Islands region on Monday afternoon, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The tremor hit the region at 16:12 UTC (14:12 local time). It occurred at a depth of 35 km with the epicenter of South Sandwich Islands region. Seismologists first reported it as a 4.9 event, but later upgraded it to 5.0.
