A 5.0 magnitude quake occurred close to South Sandwich Islands region on Saturday morning, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

A tremor rattled the area at 07:10 UTC (05:10 local time). The earthquake’s epicenter was of South Sandwich Islands region and occurred at a depth of 100 km. The magnitude was originally reported as 4.9 but later upgraded to 5.0.
