MENDOCINO COUNTY, CA — Friday afternoon, a preliminary 2.0 magnitude quake was detected near Redwood Valley, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The tremor, which shook the area at 3:10 p.m., was centered roughly 5 miles northwest of Redwood Valley. It occurred at a depth of just 1 mile.

Matching magnitude quakes reported this week

Over the last week, there have been two earthquakes exceeding magnitude 2.5 in the region, both registering 2.9. One struck close to Cobb prior to this quake, and the other was felt close to Lake Pillsbury on July 6.
