MARE, Loyalty Islands Province — A 5.3 magnitude quake occurred close to Tadine on Saturday around midday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The tremor struck the area at 01:10 UTC (12:10 local time). It occurred at a depth of 10 km with the epicenter roughly 58 km east-northeast of Tadine.

Tremors past week

Five tremors with a magnitude 2.5 or above were recorded in the region last week, two of them larger than magnitude 5.5. The strongest, a 6.6 magnitude quake, was reported in the same region on Sep. 26.
