MARE, Loyalty Islands Province — A 5.0 magnitude quake occurred near Tadine at midday on Sunday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The tremor jolted the region at 01:18 UTC (12:18 local time). It occurred at a depth of 10 km with the epicenter approximately 61 km east-northeast of Tadine.

Tremors last week

In the past week, 22 tremors of magnitude 2.5 or above have been reported in the area, two of them larger than magnitude 5.5. The largest one was a 6.6 earthquake that was detected in the same region on Sep. 26.
