5.1 magnitude earthquake registered near Lata, Solomon Islands on Oct. 1

A 5.1 magnitude quake struck close to Lata on Thursday morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The USGS reported a tremor in the region at 19:38 UTC (06:38 local time). The epicenter was approximately 171 km southeast of Lata, at a depth of 10 km.

Another magnitude 4.6 quake was centered in the area. The event was also reported close to Lata on Sep. 26.
