Oct. 1: Earthquake measuring 5.1 shakes region close to Miyako, Japan

A 5.1 magnitude quake occurred near Miyako on Thursday morning, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

A tremor struck the area at 17:17 UTC (03:17 local time). The earthquake’s epicenter was about 108 km east-northeast of Miyako and occurred at a depth of 35 km.

Another quake with a magnitude 4.4 was recorded in the region. It was also detected close to Miyako on Sep. 29.
