SOUTHLAND DISTRICT, Southland Region — A 5.3 magnitude quake shook near Arthurs Point on Wednesday afternoon, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The tremor, which hit the area at 06:13 UTC (18:13 local time), was centered roughly 66 km north-northwest of Arthurs Point. It occurred at a depth of 10 km.
