MARE, Loyalty Islands Province — A 5.0 magnitude quake occurred close to Tadine on Wednesday afternoon, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The tremor rattled the area at 06:50 UTC (17:50 local time). It occurred at a depth of 10 km with the epicenter approximately 83 km northeast of Tadine.

Last week, the region has experienced 34 tremors of magnitude 2.5 or higher, two of them larger than magnitude 5.5. The largest one was a 6.6 earthquake that was reported in the same region on Sep. 26.
