A 5.0 magnitude quake rattled near Balangonan on Wednesday night, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The tremor hit at 13:23 UTC (21:23 local time), with its epicenter roughly 40 km southwest of Balangonan and a depth of 70 km.

In the past week, the area has experienced two earthquakes above magnitude 2.5, both centered near Sarangani. The larger, a 5.0 magnitude event, was detected on Jul. 25, while the other, at magnitude 4.9, shook on Jul. 25.
