DAVAO OCCIDENTAL, Davao Region — A 5.0 magnitude quake occurred near Balangonan on Wednesday night, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The tremor rattled the area at 13:16 UTC (21:16 local time). It occurred at a depth of 61 km with the epicenter approximately 5 km north-northeast of Balangonan.

Two tremors closeby last week
In the past week, two quakes exceeding magnitude 2.5 have been centered in the region. Both were reported close to Sarangani, with the stronger — a 5.0 magnitude earthquake — shaking on Jul. 25. The other, measuring 4.9, struck on Jul. 25.
