Update: Earthquake of 5.0 magnitude reported close to Noda, Japan on April 24

A 5.0 magnitude quake struck near Noda on Friday afternoon, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

A tremor shook the area at 05:13 UTC (15:13 local time). The earthquake’s epicenter was roughly 85 km east of Noda and occurred at a depth of 35 km.

17 tremors with a magnitude 2.5 or higher have been recorded in the region over the last week, three of them larger than magnitude 5.5. The most significant was a 7.4 magnitude earthquake detected near Miyako on Apr. 20.
