At 10 a.m. Saturday, the National Hurricane Center issued an advisory stating that Tropical Storm Gonzalo is in the Atlantic Ocean, 145 miles north of Sal Cabo Verde. Packing maximum sustained winds of 40 mph, it is tracking north-northwest at 10 mph.

“… the center will continue to move away from northeastern portions of the Cabo Verde Islands today,” according to forecasters. They also said “Additional weakening is forecast, and Gonzalo is expected to become a remnant low in the next 12-24 hours.”

Yesterday (Friday)

Gonzalo left Cabo Verde and headed to the Atlantic Ocean.

Hazard affecting land

Surf. Swells generated by Gonzalo are expected to affect portions of the Cabo Verde Islands through today before diminishing Sunday. These swells are likely to cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions.
