At 4 a.m. Saturday, the National Hurricane Center issued its first advisory of the day for the system, reporting that Tropical Storm Gonzalo is in the Atlantic Ocean, 60 miles north of Sal Cabo Verde. With maximum sustained winds of 45 mph, the system is moving north at 9 mph.

“… the center will continue to move away from northeastern portions of the Cabo Verde Islands today,” according to analysts.

Yesterday (Friday)

Gonzalo left Cabo Verde and headed to the Atlantic Ocean.

Hazard affecting land

Surf. Swells generated by Gonzalo are expected to affect portions of the Cabo Verde Islands through today before diminishing Sunday. These swells are likely to cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions.
