At 4 p.m. Saturday, the National Hurricane Center released the final advisory for the post-tropical cyclone system. Gonzalo became a post-tropical cyclone with sustained winds of 40 mph after weakening from a tropical storm. Post Tropical Cyclone Gonzalo is in the Atlantic Ocean, 180 miles north of Sal Cabo Verde. Packing maximum sustained winds of 40 mph, it is tracking north-northwest at 7 mph.

“Additional weakening is forecast, and the post-tropical cyclone is expected to dissipate over eastern Subtropical Atlantic by the early to mid portion of next week,” forecasters explained.

Gonzalo left Cabo Verde and headed to the Atlantic Ocean.

Hazard affecting land

Surf. Swells generated by Gonzalo are expected to affect portions of the Cabo Verde Islands this evening before diminishing Sunday. These swells are likely to cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions.
