Update: 5.0 magnitude earthquake strikes close to Barranca, Peru on Feb. 22

DATEM DEL MARAÑÓN PROVINCE, Loreto — A 5.0 magnitude quake was registered close to Barranca Sunday morning, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The tremor shook at 06:43 UTC (01:43 local time), with its epicenter situated about 31 km northeast of Barranca and a depth of 115 km.
