Update: Earthquake of 5.0 magnitude detected near Port-Olry, Vanuatu on Feb. 18

A 5.0 magnitude quake was reported near Port-Olry at midday on Wednesday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

A tremor struck the area at 00:45 UTC (11:45 local time). The earthquake’s epicenter was situated approximately 105 km north-northwest of Port-Olry and occurred at a depth of 10 km.

Tremors last week

Last week, three quakes of magnitude 6.1 or above have been recorded in the region. The most significant was a 6.5 magnitude earthquake that rocked in the same region four days ago.
