MARE, Loyalty Islands Province — A 5.2 magnitude quake occurred close to Tadine on Saturday night, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The tremor, which jolted the region at 12:14 UTC (23:14 local time), was centered about 58 km northeast of Tadine. It occurred at a depth of 10 km.

Last week, there have been 15 earthquakes with a magnitude 2.5 or higher centered nearby, two of them larger than magnitude 5.5. The most significant was a 6.6 magnitude earthquake registered in the same region on Sep. 26.
