TAWAE-SIASSI DISTRICT, Morobe Province — A 5.3 magnitude quake struck close to Finschhafen on Thursday morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

A tremor jolted the region at 23:30 UTC (09:30 local time). The earthquake’s epicenter was about 72 km northwest of Finschhafen and occurred at a depth of 54 km.
