A 5.2 magnitude quake was recorded close to Severo-Kuril’sk Wednesday morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The tremor jolted the area at 20:27 UTC (06:27 local time). It occurred at a depth of 58 km with the epicenter situated roughly 107 km southeast of Severo-Kuril’sk. Seismologists first reported it as a 5.3 event, but later downgraded it to 5.2.

Tremors last week
Over the last week, six tremors of magnitude 5.5 or greater have been detected in the area. The strongest, a 7.0 magnitude quake, hit the same region three days earlier.
