A 5.0 magnitude quake was registered close to Vilyuchinsk Monday night, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.
The tremor, which struck the area at 12:05 UTC (23:05 local time), was centered roughly 187 km southeast of Vilyuchinsk. It occurred at a depth of 11 km. Seismologists first reported it as a 5.2 event, but later downgraded it to 5.0.

Tremors last week
Over the last week, 50 tremors of magnitude 2.5 or greater have been recorded in the region, two of them larger than magnitude 5.5. The largest, measuring 5.8, occurred in the same region five days ago.
