Update: Earthquake of 5.2 magnitude registered close to Severo-Kuril’sk, Russia on Aug. 4

The U.S. Geological Survey reported that a 5.2 magnitude quake jolted close to Severo-Kuril’sk Monday morning.

It was reported that a tremor hit the region at 16:46 UTC (02:46 local time). The epicenter was located roughly 175 km south of Severo-Kuril’sk, at a depth of 10 km.

Tremors last week

Over the last week, six tremors of magnitude 5.5 or above have been detected in the area. The largest, measuring 6.2, occurred in the same region prior to this quake.
