ALEUTIANS WEST CENSUS AREA, AK — According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a 6.0 magnitude quake occurred close to Nikolski on Monday afternoon.

The tremor shook at 5:11 a.m. (6:11 p.m. local time), with its epicenter roughly 60 miles southwest of Nikolski and a depth of 9 miles. Seismologists first reported it as a 6.3 event, but later downgraded it to 6.0.
