Update: 5.2 magnitude earthquake recorded close to Nikolski, AK on Sept. 3

ALEUTIANS WEST CENSUS AREA, AK — A 5.2 magnitude quake jolted near Nikolski on Thursday morning, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The tremor, which struck the area at 1:03 p.m. (2:03 a.m. local time), was centered about 62 miles south-southwest of Nikolski. It occurred at a depth of 6 miles.

Tremors last week

Over the last week, there have been 59 tremors of magnitude 2.5 or above centered nearby. The largest, measuring 5.3, occurred in the same region on Sep. 31.
