Update: Earthquake strikes region near Ürümqi, China on April 2 – 5.1 magnitude recorded

A 5.1 magnitude quake occurred near Ürümqi on Thursday around midday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The tremor jolted at 07:39 UTC (13:39 local time), with its epicenter roughly 65 km south-southeast of Ürümqi and a depth of 10 km. Seismologists first reported it as a 5.2 event, but later downgraded it to 5.1.
