Earthquake hits area close to Sarangani, Philippines: 5.3 magnitude detected on Aug. 13

A 5.3 magnitude quake shook near Sarangani on Thursday morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The tremor struck at 18:39 UTC (02:39 local time), with its epicenter approximately 11 km south of Sarangani and a depth of 66 km.

Quakes past week

Seven earthquakes of magnitude 2.5 or above were recorded in the region last week. The most significant was a 4.9 magnitude earthquake reported in the same region on Aug. 8.
