According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a 5.0 magnitude quake occurred close to South Sandwich Islands region at midday on Saturday.

The tremor hit the area at 14:04 UTC (12:04 local time). It occurred at a depth of 70 km with the epicenter located of South Sandwich Islands region.
