Aug. 27: Earthquake of 5.3 magnitude registered near Labuan Bajo, Indonesia

A 5.3 magnitude quake occurred close to Labuan Bajo on Thursday afternoon, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The USGS reported a tremor in the region at 10:33 UTC (18:33 local time). The epicenter was approximately 54 km north-northeast of Labuan Bajo, at a depth of 10 km.

Tremors past week

Over the last week, the area has experienced 18 tremors of magnitude 2.5 or above. The strongest, a 5.2 magnitude quake, was reported near Ruteng on Aug. 22.
