Update: Earthquake measuring 5.0 rattles area near Simao, China on July 21

A 5.0 magnitude quake occurred near Simao on Tuesday evening, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The tremor, which shook the region at 11:43 UTC (19:43 local time), was centered about 61 km northeast of Simao. It occurred at a depth of 10 km. Seismologists first reported it as a 4.9 event, but later upgraded it to 5.0.
